When I found out that we were expecting a baby GIRL this time, in mid November, I set to Pinterest to find all of the cutest DIY frills and lace projects that I could pin!
I saw these sweet little baby girl boots and knew that I HAD TO HAVE THEM!!

The full site for the original pattern can be found here.
Of course I clicked through to the link that went to the website with the pattern and it was FA REE (that should be said like the British roommate on Bridesmaids that gets the tequila worm tattoo for FA REE!). The only problem... I hadn't the slightest idea how to crochet.
That was not going to stop me! I had YouTube on my side!
So... I went to the local JoAnns or Walmart or Hobby Lobby or something and picked up my supplies.
Easy peasy! I figured, I was investing very little, so if I failed miserably, my loss would be minimal.
In the mean time, I had been telling a couple of people that I saw these mostadorablehadtohavethemboots and that I was going to attempt to make them via YouTube and the pattern that Ashlee so conveniently provided for me. Each time I shared my new goal, the response I got was less than favorable. First, my husband tells me... why don't you ask my cousins, they are both really good at crochet... umm... because I WANT to do it! Then my mom says - too bad Gram's thumb is hurt, because I am SURE she can make them... wait... was she implying that I CANNOT?
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
The first go was... hmmm... interesting. I cannot find the pictures, but ... lets just say it has become a humorous beret for our cat!
Then, I spent a little more time getting familiar with the crochet hooks, I bought nice soft baby yarn and was patient and concentrated REALLY REALLY hard!
The results...
...a pair of acceptable (who am I kidding I think they are darned FANTASTIC) boots that our little Ladybird will get to don come November!!

I cannot believe you went from not knowing how to crochet to making THESE ADORABLE BOOTIES!!!!! Word. You are amazing! Thanks so much for linking up! Happy Monday!!

ReplyDeleteWow! I am impressed! You did an amazing job. I absolutely love them!
ReplyDeleteOk, can I just say? This is exactly what I did when I wanted to crochet a pair of booties (and a hat with ears) for my friend's baby. I found an amazing YouTube video showing me how to do it step-by-step because I had never crocheted anything else besides a blanket and even my two-year old son could make that. ;) BUT, I love the style of the booties you found! I will definitely be making booties for my little boy's tootsies this winter and I will use the video you found. Thanks SO much for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteUM...WOW! Those are amazing! They look just like the photo! Awesome job! So jealous of your mad knitting skills.

Ok I'm not a big crochet-er, BUT I do know how to do a few stitches. However, I've never attempted anything that wasn't flat...IE, a pot holder or scarf LOL. Maybe I could attempt these?
ReplyDeleteThank you SO much for linking up to The Pinspiration Project!
